One day, far in the future, I will buy a house.  I will buy said house not because of the financial benefit, or because I want to stop paying rent, but because once I physically own a property I can remodel it.  I can build things.

Some of it’s my history.  My family moved into the house my parents currently live in when I was eight.  And, if memory serves me right, they were still in the midst of remodeling when I moved out at eighteen.  The house wasn’t much to talk about when we moved in, but now?  Now it’s freaking amazing.  And why?  Because we spent ten years of our lives tearing down and rebuilding it piece by piece.

You get used to your house looking like this after awhile.

And you know, I miss it.  I miss having a huge project to come back to every day, and the freedom to say, “you know, I just don’t like this kitchen.  Let’s change it.”

Let’s make all the shelves coffins, okay?

Part of the reason, too, is because I come across really cool ideas out there as I wander the internet.  Ideas that I want to have in my home as soon as physically possible.  But most of these really cool additions assume that I own the space or have the most unbelievably awesome landlord.

So here are a couple of the things that I will totally build in my house… as soon as I have one.

I love the set up of this room, from the pull out bed to the reading nook up in the corner, to the ample storage space scattered throughout.  And the best part is that this wouldn’t be that hard to build, it would just take some time.

Have I mentioned how much I love reading nooks?  Perhaps I should have.  I’d spend most of my life in reading nooks if possible, and this one is just deep enough to be reallllly comfortable.

Rock climbing walls!  Inside my house!  Need I say more?

This seems like the perfect set up for a party, doesn’t this just look like a classy place to hang out?  Or, on the opposite end of the spectrum it could act as a wrestling ring for drunk friends/relatives.  Or you could fill it full of pillows and jump in!  Although I’d change the carpet and upholstery to something darker- you just know that someone is going to spill their drinks in there.

Now, it doesn’t have to be this shower.  But every time I visit someplace nice I’m surprised by how happy an awesome shower makes me.  In the future when I have a house I’m willing to spend some time building a large walk-in shower and spring for a really nice shower head.

Stairs, and a slide!  And we’ll leave my imaginary house like that.
